Analysis Paralysis

Analysis Paralysis is a mental blockade designed by our subconscious to delay decision making because of an underlying fear or insecurity. Most of the time the insecurity resides with fear of the unknown.

It's fear of the unknown. The unknown is what it is. And to be frightened of it is what sends everybody scurrying around chasing dreams, illusions, wars, peace, love, hate, all that—it’s all illusion. Unknown is what it is. Accept that it’s unknown and it’s plain sailing. Everything is unknown—then you’re ahead of the game. That’s what it is. Right? - John Lennon

Instead of deciding and moving on, we spend time researching, thinking, analyzing, and searching for the "correct" or "perfect" path to take, while juggling enormous amounts of mental resources that could be used to proceed with our goals.

Analysis paralysis forms at a critical decision points. Like an animal at night stunned by oncoming headlights, we become immobile, confused, overwhelmed, and anxious of the unknown. The process can last for days, weeks, months or longer. We delay the decision by seeking refuge in others opinions, books, and searching online. Searching for the eureka moment where everything will make sense.

Simple Analysis Paralysis Solution

Stop thinking and just do it. Take a night to sleep on it. Make a list of the pros and cons, ask someone for their opinion, then ACT. It sounds easy but sometimes it can be very difficult. It is a mental struggle that must be overcome to reach the goals you set forth. The process does however become easier with each consecutive triumph. By allowing yourself to be vulnerable to uncertainty, and acknowledging your insecurities but ignoring them, you will gain more jedi powers than the next person.

Change your Perception of Decisions

Most of our decisions are based on the classic premises of a fork in the road. A fork in our lives where we either go left or right. Which way is the right way? Like a tree if we chose the wrong branch we will be forever lost if we don't choose the correct route.

If you alter your perception of the decision and view the road as a spiders web instead, an intricate web of decisions but the path we chose to climb to the top does not matter as it once did. We can alter our direction at any time, and still reach our destination.

Agile movement on gut feelings help advance you around obstacles in your journey. Setting up camp at the fork, will diminish your chances of reaching your goals.
